So last nights Dad-Venture was spent at PJ O'Brien's and, with following this week’s cravings I was keen to get stuck into a burger (I swear I must be pregnant). I must also admit that it had been a while since i had ventured into the city without my side-kick Charlie.
PJ's is a typical Irish pub with dim lighting, wooden oak furniture and a mature crowd who all seem to typically enjoy Guinness. Really…enjoy Guinness. My two friends, Johnny and Adrian were ready to turn this into a big meal that would then lead on to a big night. But in typical Dad fashion the dim lighting reminded me of my cosy bed and I had to strategically hide a yawn or two, please can I be home before 11pm? We hovered to the adjoining restaurant area where I ordered the Beef and Bacon burger from the daily special’s menu (couldn't get more Irish then that really...).
The burger came and was topped with two onion rings which were more like 'batter rings.' The burger itself tasted ok. The beef was fresh, but didn't have any elements that were amazing. The side of chips were a tad undercooked and soggy. The burger looked a little like a Krabby Patty (for all you SpongeBob fans) which was oddly satisfying.
PJs is cool I guess... perhaps more suited for a Tinder date rather than a dining experience.
My verdict: NOT WORTH IT for mains under $26.
Has been reviewing restaurants all around the Western Suburbs (and beyond) of Melbourne since 2017.
